I am in the process of making my wish list for my restoration and was wondering what opinions there are on using the aftermarket rubber mounts to hang the peashooters. Are they fairly safe to use or is there horror stories ? After all they are the only thing holding that pretty chrome off the pavement.
Striped down an cleaned my Amal 930s today. I got real lucky with then. They are in excellent condition. I see why they are so popular. They are so simple and straight forward in design. Never even had to look at the book.

If you have a Granger's down there you can get any number of sizes of the rubber mounts. I have a set on mine going on 7 years and they have given no trouble. I may also have another set in stock. I think I am using ones with 1/4 std nuts but you can get multiple sizes. By the way, I ride a 71 also. Best year to get. None of the sissy stuff added on for extra weight.

The Original rubber mounts are very inexpensive and give good service life. Walridge or British Cycle carries these. There are cheaper "economy" mounts that have a cupped rubber area and I think the cupped mounts are from a Mini exhaust system...correct me if I am wrong. The NF threaded section is also longer. I think on a Commando with a steel tank you need a total of ten. Four units for the exhaust, two for the headsteady and four for the fuel tank.
