Can a BSPP die be run over the Pringle?

The guy I talked to at Pingal, said "No, not enough meat". Although, I was suggesting a 3/8 NPT Pingal be turned down to the size for a 1/4 BSPP die.

I am sure one could run a 1/4 BSPP die over a 1/4 NPT. The result should fit, and likely will not leak, (could use a crush washer) but it is a bodge. Besides, between the Pingal tap, and a BSPP die, assuming you have to buy one, you will have about $200 in the project.

Hi Jim,
What brand/source and how many turns to get enough fuel flow?

Ed

You have to spin the valve all the way open - several turns. I used this valve because I remembered it was on our racing (Mcculloch) go carts back in the day - and it was more reliable than the readily available motorcycle petcocks. My actual setup is below. There are many versions of this valve to choose from. I've checked and one valve supplies plenty of fuel for both carbs. The inlet side of the valve has 1/8" pipe male threads (use teflon tape) that screw into a hand welded fuel tank made from alum sheet. You can always step up the thread size with a bushing etc. The outlet side also has 1/8" pipe threads for the barbed hose fitting. A brass extension pipe threaded tube with pipe threads lowers the valve so its easy to get at. I put vinal tubing on the wire handles making them more comfortable to turn, but the valve in my previous post doesn't need them. I found all this stuff was at the local hardware store when I needed it NOW. There maybe other fancier more expensive motorcycle petcocks - but my search is over.

John in Texas - Dual carbs for Nortons can need 8 oz per min per carb. A single carb can need 12 oz a min.

OK, Well I'm getting 5oz in 20 seconds so I'm doing OK. Feeding one of Jim Schmitt's Keihin PWK single carb. set ups.
Thanks for the info.
