A lot of bad feelings arising.

It was a tragic accident, there was no way she intended killing someone. But to run away makes her look as guilty as hell . Come back and face justice, seems a bit spineless to me.
I agree it's a tragic accident
It's the events that followed that are unforgivable in my opinion ,how on earth can she live with herself!!
I doubt that justice will be done here !!!

The problem now is that the CPS has raised the stakes, a charge of dangerous driving implies intent and carries with it a custodial sentence. A charge of careless driving implies an avoidable but unintended accident and carries a maximum of fine and points.
Would any one of us voluntarily go to a foreign country knowing that the intention is “to see justice done” with a highly probable custodial sentence when we all know it was a tragic accident following an error of judgement - (the Police would have arrested her at the scene if they believed anything different)

I hadn't realised the CPS had charged her with dangerous driving? Maybe there is more to it than we know ?

Flight coupled with invocation of diplomatic immunity was a stupid stupid idea.

The only reaction possible from UK would be entirely predictable - escalation, scandal, and resentment of the US.

When I visited the UK and drove a rental car, I did the same thing - got into the Mini, family with me - turned right onto an empty road, no other traffic to remind me, and drove down the right lane. Too easy to do. But for my passengers who all screamed at me, I would have remained on the wrong side.

I suspect this woman would have found some leniency if she had not fled and invoked immunity.

Agree with the last sentence entirely.
How they can allow people to roll up here, grab a rent car and head out? Well because money is involved but as Ive said before
if you come from an "other side of the road" country there should be at least a half hour video to watch.
I visited the UK four years ago for a month. Drove for three weeks. Got back to the states, got my car out of the car park, pulled out on to the street and froze
totally forgot which side to turn to. And I had 50 years in the states.

I agree with most of that. Dangerous driving is a very serious offence that has a high likelihood of being given a custodial sentence.

‘Driving without due care and attention’ would seem more appropriation IF she was simply accidentally on the wrong side of the road. ‘Dangerous driving’ does imply deliberately and knowingly driving dangerously.

However, I know from personal experience that the police can / do / will try hard to elevate a very ‘open and shut’ ‘due care and attention’ case to a ‘dangerous driving’ charge, why I do not know.

Throw her in the clink!

Your comment there seems to be "jokey" to me, I suppose you didn't mean it to come out that way ?
It's not a subject of mirth, a young lad out on his bike had his life taken away.
Whether by dangerous driving or undue care and attention, the facts remain the same .
He's dead

I read on newsite that an assessment was made on the diplomatic immunity claim and it was found to be a surprise that spousal immunity was greater than the actual diplomatic staff in this anomalous case. Not sure what the article was actually implying, whether the rules are actually being followed correctly here or if it was implying this woman was getting protections that go beyond what is due.

In Australia many years ago, it was not unusual to see a speeding car with diplomatic number plates. It does not seem to happen so much these days.

This sort of shit sickens me. There is no higher quality to have in this world than "honor".

The United States has criticised the UK's request to extradite an American accused of killing motorcyclist Harry Dunn, calling it "highly inappropriate".

Hopefully, once Mr "Bonespurs" is out of office the next regime will be more reasonable.

There is nothing appropriate about any thing the U SA diplomats have done in this case. Not to distract from this subject, on Feb 3rd 1998 an American fighter pilot flew his plane in Italy into a valley where he was told not to go in order to take pictures. The Italians had repeatedly complained about the low flying of planes .the underside of the aircraft sliced through a steel cable of a cable car and sent 20 people inside falling to their deaths. What was the American response? - they promptly flew him back to the USA leaving the Italians to pick up the pieces. He was later dismissed from the Air force after being found guilty of various offences. It's over 20 years since this happened, and still no one accepts responsibility.

Back in the '70s we had a family friend visiting Montreal from the UK for a work related stay. He got in to a head on collision one night from driving on the left side of the highway. Killed the other driver and sustained major injuries himself. As with most such tragedies the courts did not impose a prison sentence as it was deemed not a criminal action.

I'm very sure the Dunn case would have followed a similar course had the woman not fled the scene and subsequently the country.

That was the 70s this was more recently when the traffic driving laws have changed since then. It is unlikely she will get jail time if she hadn't ran away, but the case now. . . . . . . .

NBC News has reported that the UK has formally requested that the USA extradite the woman to the UK to stand trial. The controversy as to whether or not she is entitled to diplomatic immunity goes on. Her husband must have been heavily involved in espionage of some sort
for the USA to want to sweep this under the rug.

I live by a simple guide.
Without pride you have nothing, without integrity you are nothing.
You do not have to be the best but you should endeavour to be your best.

The woman will not return based on the contempt shown already by the powers to be, you don't need to sweep anything under the rug when it doesn't matter.

I would imagine she has sleepless nights as do the parents.

All governments can do really stupid stuff. The Brit government is currently offering the Northern Ireland assembly huge financial inducements if they would only agree to talk to each other. When did bribes for bad behaviour work? They should have threatened to stop ALL financial aid till common sense prevailed. What sort of upbringing do politicians get??.

As some people predicted, the US have rejected the UK the extradition request one of its citizens to be charged over the death of Harry Dunn. Just as it becomes the Chinese new year of the Rat. . . .
(And no, I'm not blaming the Chinese!)
