The mother of the deceased has lost her High Court case against the Foreign Office whether their son's alleged killer had diplomatic immunity.
Mr Dunn's mother Charlotte Charles said the High court ruling was "just a blip along the way "

Any detail on if they found immunity was in place or was case lost on other grounds/technicalities?

she wouldn't have been able to pass a driving test in the 1st place!
I was going to say, what makes you think she did?
Which leads me to the question that if she had someone else sitting in a driving test for her, she hasn't legally got a licence at all, which makes another Avenue Harry Dunn's mother's legal team should investigate further.

the whole thing stinks. she is no way entitled to diplomatic immunity. it was originally for representatives of countries to pass freely without hinderance. ie, diplomats. not members of the armed forces to behave as they please.

Yeah, originally the idea of immunity was to remove the ability of someone tieing up a diplomat's time defending frivolous law suits while in a foreign country. It wasn't designed so their wife could kill some poor kid by driving on the wrong side of the road, then leave the country so they would not have to participate in the inquiry. IF she was indeed immune from persecution, then she should be involved in the inquiry, and regardless of the outcome, she would be legally protected by immunity. At least she would give the kid's parents the satisfaction of owning her guilt publicly. Also you can't apologize for something that was an accident if you don't admit your guilt, so she can't even give a heartfelt apology if it was indeed an innocent mistake on her part.

This world is full of people who will pay some great sum of money to make a valid accusation of guilt go away, rather than admit their guilt and pay nothing... It's hard for a humble person to understand, but it seems it's something every lawyer understands and is standard practice...

This was the basics of her recent court case, but the judge ruled against her.
Look it up on the internet.

I would not even attempt to drive in the UK after a lifetime of driving on the opposite side of the road. I watch all of NortonRiders vids and am completely confused by the signage and all else of vehicular operations there. US citizens should be required by law to take and pass rigorous courses prior to being allowed to drive there because instinct is going to get them into trouble very often and at the cost of innocent lives at times. Just my take on the affair... Justice has not been served, and the surviving (perpetrator) vehicle operator is obviously of lowly moral stock and poor manners to not offer an apology to the young man's mother. Condolences are just common decency for such an occurrence...... Diplomatic Immunity was indeed not designed for this crap.

Driving on the other side of the road was a new experience. The first time I went to England in 1976 for about 6 weeks. Drove a Queens Jubille Mini
Back again in the late 80's 90's and again for the last time around 2005?
Manual stick shifting on the left! Roundabout the opposite direction yeah boy!!!
On one trip a norton club friend came also for a "shopping trip". We got a rental car and he wanted ON the insurance policy, planning he would drive too. Well for about 8-9 days we drove all over as far north as RGM staying overnight in Whitehaven!!! Oh WOW. Norvil, British motorcycle museum, Central wheel, Mick Hemmings and many more.
It's a long time ago but one thing I remember late in that trip, I asked "aren't you going to drive"? he declined and said he didn't dare.
The petrol cost was way more than the rental charge for the car.
Very funny coming back we had so much MC parts in out luggage it was too heavy to run on the regular conveyor so the check in girl at Heathrow had a porter and a cart bring out our "freight" directly to the plane LOL.
You should have seen us at US customs...it was hilarious

I regularly cross the channel to Europe and drive south through France Belgium, luxembourg,Switzerland and Italy. Not sure about riding bikes there though, a simple mistake is too costly . The previous owner of the Norton took it all over Europe following !960's Bike Grand prix racing as a photographer and the Avatar shows him somewhere hot and sunny. I have had a few close shaves trying to drive on the left in France. Happily when the French see you comming with English plates they get off the road onto the pavement!.

I've been riding bikes ( and driving cars) in Europe for nearly 40 years , I find I can slot in to the opposite side no problem, did start off once on the wrong side , and once only !

Tape on your right side bar / mirror works well: “Tape on the right, drive on the right”. It’s a good and easy reminder.

And another rule of mine when driving in a foreign country where I might not be 100% up on all the rules is: “if in doubt, give way”.

Out in Rural France you may still meet-up with an old local who still thinks "priority on the right" and pulls out accross you from a small side turning. Pretty lethal.

Being a pretty typical American I'm most certain my brain would immediately cramp when presented with an emergency situation and revert to 'safe mode' thereby moving me into the wrong lane for the UK.... 50 years of habit cannot be quickly unlearned.... Hire a driver or take a taxi rather than be caught in a bad situation is all I suggest until you're proven to master the skills necessary to drive there. You are a guest so act like one with a by your leave. The elderly shouldn't outlive their children because of BS like this woman's arrogant ignorance. Now I've been forced into judging without all of the facts, but I'll wager I'm pretty much correct with the assessment of her and she deserves no mercy for her selfish and rude inconsideration of a grieving mother. Just $.02

The new Biden administration has said the US government's decision to refuse an extradition request for Harry Dunn's alleged killer was "final".
His mother said the statement "came as no surprise ".
So that looks to be the end of it, but there is still the insurance claim to be settled.

This has been a sad thread to follow,
I would love to see the driver hiding behind all the diplomatic immunity penalized monetarily but if that ever comes to fruition it is years away....and you know where a big chunk of any compensation would go.

Wonder why you call us 'Ugly Americans". This is entirely wrong but I doubt the family will get any satisfaction. Many of us are fed up with political privileges' in the USA. Nancy Pelosi just committed inside trading by buying Tesla stock a week before Biden announced the government is going Electric vehicles An not a thing will be done about it. I'm sorry for the family
