A lot of bad feelings arising.

Anne Sacoolas received a sentence of 8 months prison suspended for 12 months
and disqualified from driving (in the UK only) for 12 months for a charge of death
(of motorcyclist Harry Dunn) by careless driving.

So basically disqualified from driving for a year.. 🤮

How does that compare in the UK to other similar cases?

In Fairfax County, VA. Reckless Driving, 1st offense, usually is a year in county jail with most suspended, loss of license for some period after which you go to school to get it back, and up to $2500 fine.

In Virginia, Vehicular Manslaughter is a Class 6 Felony: A conviction for a Class 6 felony can lead to $2,500 in criminal fines and one to five years in prison. Leaving the scene (hit and run) where a death is involved is a Class 5 felony and carries up to 10 years in prison. A judge and combine the time or run them serially so here there would be a possibility of 15 years in prison (unlikely to actually happen).

Well banned from driving in the UK ! So basically she is charged with nothing
Which is amazing as she had a previous conviction for not paying attention behind the wheel in 2006

I happened to put the TV on while doing the ironing and watched the family of Harry Dunn
give an interview and answered questions from the media outside the Old Bailey. I don't
cry, but welled up a bit.

Immense respect to them for what they have achieved. They stated they realised that Anne
had made a terrible mistake, but were disgusted that she did not physically come to court
and were disgusted that the American Government protected them, they were especially
disgusted with Trump actions to try to get them to meet at the Whitehouse with all the media
present such that he could a achieve a success. Harry's parents went to the Whitehouse,
refused to see Anne Socoolas then went home. Harry's family were/are totally disgusted.

As stated above, Anne Socoolas was banned from driving in a country she will never return
to AND will not serve a prison sentence in a country she will never return to.

Praise to the judge for the strong language she used against Anne Sacoolas. Including:

Judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb said the death of Harry Dunn is "the highest degree
of harm
and Sacoolas's conduct was was not far short of deliberately dangerous driving
that results in a death, but said she accepted that Sacoolas felt "genuine remorse".

Did you learn why the parents went to the White House in the first place? What was the expectation there?

The accident itself was, for me, not the real crime. It was the leaving the scene, not taking responsibilty, leaving the country.
Back in the '70's we had a friend of the family visiting us in Montreal from England during a business trip. He later had a head-on collision while driving on the wrong side of the road, killing the other driver. He himself was injured and needed some hospital time. He never tried to deceive the authorities and took full responsibility. There was never any criminal conviction requiring jail time.

Not entirely sure, but IIRC they were invited by Trump on the understanding that he would help
to get Anne Socoolas to return to the UK for the trial. But Trump was hoping for a moment of
glory in the media for bring the two partied together and "sort their problem"
Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

As you say the real crime was leaving a dying person at the scene.
IIRC Harry spoke his last words to to Anne Socoolas as he died.

At the scene AS said to those that arrived soon after that she was responsible.

Then Anne Sacoolas absconded the country to avoid prosecution. AND was then proyected
by the American Government.

Apparently it is not an isolated incident. A US lady was arrested and stopped from leaving
the UK recently when she killed somebody when driving on the wrong side of the road outside
RAF Lakenheath a US Air base.

A spokesman for Harry's parents stated outside the Old Bailey that thousands had been killed
by US personnel driving on the wrong side (for UK) in the past. I find it difficult to believe
it is thousands.

The Sky article looks to be a reasonable summary of what I remember.

Perhaps a better, more detailed, one is on the BBC web site as a current top story.

It has featured as a top story on the BBC TV News since I did the ironing this afternoon.

Is it being featured elsewhere around the world ?

I saw it on BBC news earlier
It stated she was given the suspended sentence but crucially it said she had a 12 months driving ban but failed to state the ban applied only in the UK!

So NO consequence at all
She still can drive in the U.S but not the U.K as she will never return publicly
The BBC are bought and payed for by the Administrative State
Sky Australia and Fox news are not much better as they are owned by Murdoch ..
