Hi All,
This is my first post so , hopefully I dont bore you all the death,but I'm interested to hear any little stories that people may have to share.....Quirky or informative, as this site is such good reading.
My little story is a first ride after another surgery after suffering a long term right wrist injury, and having countless surgeries and rehab over the last four years,riding has been few and far between,
So when today dawned a warmish 8 degrees, my wife and I decided to pull the Norton commando 850 out, and she In her little 78 Mini ,and we headed off to a local pub in Western Southland ,NZ for Lunch.
The Wairo pub is situated in a old coal mining area with plenty of history and In a rural setting with the Takitimu Mountains in the background.It has a mini front end above the bar lit up with its lights on as decoration( wifey was shocked ! ), a old austin front grill on the wall, Chamois, stag, trout,and boar trophies on the walls along with beautiful native wood through out,oh and also a old yamaha motorcycle chained to the roof in the mens toilet ! ( glad it wasn't a Norton )
Parking up the Commando and the mini outside we duly walked in, grabbed a drink and ordered lunch. In this lovely rural pub was a tabby cat sitting on the bar drinking milk out of a nip pourer and a old black lab mingling with the patrons ( gosh I love rural pubs in Southland ! )
The Mini and the Norton were instantly a talking point and We spoke to a couple who had retired to Orepuki, she was Norwegian and her kiwi husband had meet her while fishing over there. She had owned a couple of Minis in Norway,and He proceeded to show me old photos of his old bikes, One a lovely AMC jampot 650,and he mentioned that he have never owned a Harley or a Norton even tho he'd owned over 26 bikes over the years and most of those were brit bikes ! .
After lunch saddled up, headed home to shift the sheep ( 10 degrees now ) the Norton performed perfectly,and My state of mind restored, albeit the wrist is a bit sore but it was worth it
