Yesteday started out as a good day in the shop planning to get the green MK3 up and running with the Ohlins conversion in the front forks, planning to get a test ride in.

A Good Day in the Shop Gone Bad

But then it ended up like this, with a deep cut in the finger, a trip to the ER, ending with 5 stitches and a splint. Doc says splint has to stay on for 2 weeks, at least. I can still manage some work in the shop, but for sure no riding for a couple of weeks. Bummer.

Sorry to hear this news, you have my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

How did this happen?

Best.

Hope it heals fast and right. I. Sure there is a lesson learned in there somewhere. Great looking shop.

Poor soul..... I can understand the cut, stitches, and splint, but to have him ground you too..... He must suspect mystical mischief of sorts I'll wager.... Heal quickly and keep it clean.

Only a flesh wound Ken, I did the same thing about 12 months ago cutting steel with a cut off wheel on my grinder, sliced up along my finger didn't even know I did it till all the blood, sliced open a blood vessel and the blood kept flowing, a quick visit to ER 6 stitchers out side and one for the blood vessel, it healed quickly and after 12 months can't even see the scar, next day after cutting my finger open I was back into it but had my thick leather welding glove on the injured hand, been using grinders all my working life and never had a accident then now retired it decides to attack me, anyway hopefully you will heal quickly.
On the day at the hospital I was the 3rd home grinder accident injury for the day, the home workshop is a dangerous place and safety rules seem to go out the door, I am now more careful in what I do but still got a habit of dropping things on my foot.

Picked up a mass if titanium swarf off the floor and didn't realize I had stepped on some of it. It was razor sharp, and when I pulled up it sliced the finger right at the second joint. Bled like crazy, but fortunately no tendon damage, The splint is because flexing the joint would tear open the wound again. Have to keep it on for 2 weeks, at least. Don't think I can manage throttle and brake with it on, even if I could figure out a way to get a glove on. It should eventually heal just fine, with no effect except a nasty scar, according to the doc.

My worst cuts in the shop have always been messing with the lathe swarf. Cuts so easily, so deep....

Heal well.

Ha. If i could post pictures. Shattered ankle kickback. Getting off easy my friend. But if it gets infected go straight to antibiotics.

Ouch!
That cudda been Much worse Ken.
Take it easy mate, help the healing...

Sorry to hear Ken, I hope you heal well. I cut my inner thumb base a day or so ago with a glancing cut off wheel, so i can feel your pain.
Time to back off some tasks and heal for a spell.
Good healing.

I use the garden fork to clear out the swarf from my lathe and a vacuum cleaner on the mill. Have enough issues from stainless steel splinters in the fingers to risk cutting my hands open on swarf ;) .

I feel my knees getting weak :eek:o_Oo_O

Come on Ken, Man Up. You got nine more
Seriously, sorry to hear that happened. I’ve done that myself, but never that good. Hope that’s not your drinking hand. Heal quickly, I have been following this and Dan’s thread with great interest.

What a wuss! you've three good fingers and a thumb.;)
Two weeks isn't long to wait.

Thanks for all the kind words. Lesson learned. I do believe I will be more careful now about cleaning up the sharp bits after machining.

Ouch, the most annoying part of an injury is the lack of production while it mends.
Not supposed to bend the finger cause it rips open the wound.
Hardest part now is to have patience.....
Best wishes and mend well Ken..........
We all look forward to your progress posts..
