I once looked at a standard Commando frame for racing. I did not buy it. If you are building a race bike, starting with a road bike might not be the best way to go. The costs are not much different when you build something really good. The NYC Seeleys look excellent. There would have to be a very good restricted race class, for me to want to build a road-bike based Commando racer. When you see a Seeley frame, it is not just another frame.
