We started in three Commando, two Fastback (one red and one black) and a Roadster (black), for a weekend between Ravello, Amalfi, Sorrento and Positano.
After 500 km, a nice ride with a great warm, we returned at home always in three, but with only a Fastback (the red one) and two Roadster (the black one and one ... yellow)!.
Well, after thirty km from the start the Fastback (black) had a great noises, may be he broke something (valves? piston? ..? ..?).
No problem, I left the bike in a Hotel near and  i returned at home accompanied by my brother with the fastback red and got the yellow Roadster that went great!
Tomorrow I go to retrieve the Fastback black and over the next few days we'll see what happened.
Nevertheless we enjoyed very much.
Ciao.
Piero

Piero - thank you for those photos. I have never been to Amalfi, but I can see that it is one of Europe's most beautiful coastlines. What do Italians think of your Nortons? Most of them have probably never seen a Commando before.

I was in Italy three weeks ago, in Sardegna, although unfortunately not on a motorbike. Lots of bikes there but I didn't see any classics. There are some nice biking roads in the mountains and it has its own beautiful, wild coastline. Your last photo reminded me of the wonderful Italian cuisine!

Ciao,

Dave

Hi Dave.
The Amalfi Coast is a very beautifull side; in all the world they know Capri, Sorrento, Positano, Nerano, Maiori, etc.
I know very well the Sardinia Coast too, another nice sea.
Here in Italy there are a lot of english classic bike, but unfortunately the average age of the owners is rather high and the bikes are little used.
I'll save the bikes to give to my kids that i hope they want to use them for travel "calmly and enjoy for feel the scents and views" that speed does not appreciate.
About the food dont forget that Amalfi Coast means ... LIMONCELLO.

Thanks for the pictures Piero, so nice to see other parts of this ball we live on. A good friend of mine who is on a 10 month trip of your side of the world sadly had to skip her time in Italy due to a death in the family & I know it was one of the places she most wanted to spend time. Looks so nice So I can see why.. Great architecture.. Thanks again. Glenn T.S.

Hi Glenn,
i love your ball side, i visited twice California.
You live in a very nice place.

Beautiful scenery, weather (usually), food, and history everywhere around you.
Springtime tours of Italy are worth a million bucks.
Doing it on a Commando – priceless!

California coast on the Pacific Coast Highway is nice, but somehow I think the Amalfi coast takes the prize.

Nice pics Piero, thanks.

500 km in two days, and this was the only tool we had!
We must be optimistic!

Hello Piero,

I live on land that was an Italian market garden and olive grove for 70 yrs. Most of my friends are Italian (Calabrian) and I was taught to make Limoncello. My best friend "had" to get married as a result of my Limoncello and a hot tub.

I like your expression " travel calmly and enjoy for feel the scents and views". We say "smell the roses". If I want to go fast, I have a litre sports bike. If I want to get the full experience, I take a Commando.

Thanks for the pics. Amalfi has always been on my bucket list and your story reminds me why.

Cheers

Hi agree,
is better to "smell the roses".
I will visit Australia the next Christmas with all my family.
I will drink the best australian limoncello: what is the best brand?

Italian.

Forget limoncello while you are here. Great beer and wine. When you say "visit Australia", remember all of Europe fits inside Australia easily.
