I am trying to organise a Norton meet up and although I would prefer to see most being 961's, all are welcome. At this stage the details are vague until I get some sort of numbers etc but hopefully in March and somewhere to the south of London at one of the biker cafes or pubs. Can anyone one interested let me know so I can gauge the response. Thanks. I know that this should be posted in the events section but I am also aware that many 961 owners only read these threads as the bikes are not 'classic'!

Hi glb

I have a Norton 961 SE, and would look forward to a meet up.

I live south of London in West Sussex

Unfortunately you would need to keep me for later as I have just had a major operation, and banned from bike riding till end April/ early May

Hi Sorry to hear that you are laid up. Don't worry I intend to sort out a few meets throughout the year so get well soon. I am based in East London and so anywhere in the Home Counties is easy.

I'd like to join on my 'old' Norton if allowed.

That is if I've got it nailed back together by then...

Fast Eddie You are more than welcome Whilst I ride a 961 and would like to see and meet more owners, it is open to all. In fact I would welcome it, as the last thing I want to start is an 'us and them' situation. On the NOC site a rep from the Surrey Branch suggested a pub about 500m from Ryka's at Box Hill which is where they regularly meet. This would seem an ideal venue and I hope that the Surrey Branch will turn out in strength. In addition I will also circulate this to the Kent Branch to see if they want to join in. Just got to finalise a date so get working on bolting it back together.

Following on from my original post it would seem like the Setting Stones Pub a short distance from Ryka's looks favourite with the date being the 20th March.

There have been a couple of suggestions on the NOC site which include making this an early run and tagging along with the Pioneer Run to Brighton. Anybody is welcome and free to join in or take their own route as and when.

In view of the suggestions I emailed the Organiser of the Pioneer Run to find out the route they intend to take. His reply is detailed below.
I would be quite happy to make this an early meet with a run to Brighton following the route they are taking. Or meet up with others en route.
Unfortunately the Kent Branch have two other organised ride outs that month which I was unaware of and therefore cannot commit to a third, however it is obviously open to all and if any of the Kent Branch want to meet up and ride to Surrey and then Brighton I would welcome them.
I have also emailed the Events Coordinator of NOC but have not yet had a reply.
Regards
Graham
Hi,
Starts at Tattenham Corner on Epsom Downs, out on to A217 over M25 through Reigate.
follow A217 to Gatwick pick up A23 Crawley by-pass to top of Handcross Hill then on B2011 through Handcross village
turn right over A23 through Plummers Plain to A218 continue through Cowfold, Henfield, Poynings on to A23 at Pyecombe
then follow into Brighton. The route is signed all the way with Blue RAC signs.
Please leave these veteran machines plenty of room, especially in their braking zone, enjoy the day.
krgds, Ian.

Hi I have viewed all the comments and have put together the following:

Firstly though I must stress that this is open to all and is a low key get together. We are not riding in formation and will not have outriders etc as I have seen on other organised ride outs. Everyone to their own pace.

I would have liked the meeting to start from the Stepping Stones, but as the meeting is now earlier I do not think that this is suitable. The pub does not normally open until 12 midday. As we do not have any fixed numbers I do not think that it would be a viable proposition to ask them to open just for us.

Sunday 20th March 2016

Meet at Ryka’s Café around 9-9.30am. At least we will be able to get a hot drink etc.

Leave Ryka’s around 9.45am and take the A25 to ride to join the A217 following the Pioneer Run Route to Handscross.

Hopefully we will meet up with others in Handscross around 11am.

As this is a Sunday I am not sure we will be welcome in the Parish Hall Car Park and do not know if it will be in use at that time.

I suggest therefore meeting at the Red Lion Pub Car Park which is only a few metres from Verrall’s.

If we leave there around midday we can ride the Pioneer Route to Madeira Drive in Brighton. I believe that Madeira Drive is closed off to normal traffic that day but I am sure we can find somewhere to park. Any suggestions welcome.

Obviously those who do not wish to ride the full route and can join or leave at anytime.

From Brighton riders can make their own way home.

If anyone would like details of the route, Post Codes etc, please let me know and I will post them. I don’t think that the route is taxing enough for a Sat Nav but I am sure I could put something together for those that do.

So you now have a month to either make your excuses or plan for the day.

Got my excuse already... Daughters 8th birthday party.

Got a back up excuse too... Bike won't be ready.

Other than the above... I'm raring to go !!

I have just found out that the Kent Branch are also attending the event. They will be riding a separate route but I would hope that we can meet up around the Dukes Mound/Madeira Drive area. Will keep this updated. So far we appear to have six 961's attending. Lets make it some more!!!!!

Lots of bikes out there today including numerous classics down at Brands Hatch. I can only hope that the weather we are having today stays with us for next Sunday. Hope to meet up and be able to put faces to the names on the forum. If anyone needs to speak to me or clarify anything I can be contacted on 07973414935. Regards Graham

Waiting at the A20 leading to Brands Hatch for the others to turn up. Look at the salt build up at the traffic island

Is that oil, from the airbox? Mine is awaiting the official Norton fix. Oddly it didn't show a drop for the first 700 miles (could have been building up inside the box I guess).

Hi Ian, you are correct. I have had no problems with this before and already have the feeder pipe and small plastic bottle installed to remedy this. However it still managed to get out of the airbox leaking over the cases. It only did this for a short time and now there are no leaks. Its due in to the factory for some bits over the next two weeks and will have it checked then. The feeder pipe was both blown and sucked and had free transfer in both directions so not sure why it did not deal with the problem. Proper Norton now, leaks and all!!!

I asked the owner about it and it was done by the factory at his request. He drew up the colour scheme whilst waiting for the sales man to deal with his purchase. It is more impressive in real life
