961 Cracked Flywheel

Hello, I am seeking advice about my 2014 Commando 961. After discovering that the stator grommet had disintegrated, I went to inspect the bike more and found that the rotor flywheel magnet has a large crack in it and is loose. Has anyone else had issues with this? The part on it is an Electrex, and so I looked at buying this part again, or is there another version that could be put on? And if so where do you buy your spare parts?
With the stator grommet issue, has anyone been able to purchase one of these without having to purchase the whole stator?
Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you, Elliott.
 
Yes, Ben who lives near me and used to frequent the forum had his rotor flywheel disintegrate and take the alternator with it. With some clever arguing he got it fixed by the factory and only had to pay a partial repair fee. Then he sold it !

Not much help to you as I don’t know the cause or therefore the countermeasure, but yes, it has happened before.

Thanks for posting. If I were you , I would order one from Electrex . You only need the rotor correct ? After reading your post I see the stator grommet which I believe is only supplied with the new stator ? They (Electrex) still have rotors , they may be out of stators. Coote's a year or so ago were selling 961 stators . PM Richard-7 and he can ask David if any left. How many miles are on your bike , lots ?

Hi Tony, Thanks for your information. I have only just recently purchased the bike and it had 1025 miles and I have done 50 miles on one day out, and had these problems.
 
Hi Elliot, sorry to hear this especially at such low mileage, however It sounds as though you were lucky to have found it before it became catastrophic. Electrex do have replacements in stock by the looks of it, but I would definitely contact them and see what they say about it before ordering. Maybe they will offer you a discount on a replacement.

Thanks for that information, looks like I might have to get a stator for the sake of the grommet, which I'm prepared to do.
Do you think I'm butchering the bike if I remove the outer connecting plugs and try to make a suitable grommet replacement, and then replace the plugs? There's all sorts of stories of gumming it up with silicon where I don't really want to be.
 
No not butchering , As long as it works well and looks ok . You are also getting a new ignition pick up if you buy the stator.
