How is it that news of these always seems to be 'next year'. ??

I don't know what they can be used for in Australia. Might be a nice bike for posing around on Sundays, however you can buy plenty of bikes suitable for that. I'd love to get one onto a race grid against air cooled Ducatis. I think it would burn their backsides.

There is a guy who has been racing one in NZ for a year or two now, I haven't seen it in action or kept up with how well he does.
Reportedly up to 100ish hp and I haven't heard of any reliability issues.

Similar to the claim that the first new Commando will be released in the U.S. this year...

I've repeated this too many times, so one more time won't hurt any more than one more "delivery" announcement: They need to STOP announcing 'upcoming' deliveries and just deliver the bloody things.
