It looks very promising indeed!

My only suggestion would be to limit the frame mods to the minimum.

If the mod is reversible it will be far more popular.

Indeed, if it is reversible, I’d like to put my name down first !
No frame modification could be a problem, since the design is such that the tail is a bit up. So the frame sticks out on the bottom side. This part will be removed and for finishing a laser cutted metal plate will be welded in.

Would the tail lights, indicators and tail tidy, when fitted, hide the frame somewhat.
Looking really good though

I’d say that definitely rules out fitting your seat unit to an ABS bike. There’s a lot of ‘stuff’ mounted on that bit you’re chopping off!

Just when I thought I was getting over the carbon fiber craze. Now I'm looking forward to an airbox!!;)o_O

I like to share the latest status of work on my bikes tail. Finally the work is done .
I’m happy with the end result . Next is the seat. Which must be transformed to a single seater seat. Hopefully ready after the summer holidays.

Seat unit Looks fabulous, well done sir.

I’m not sure that wrapping a cat is a good idea is it?

Hi Eddy, thanks for your compliments.
Regarding the cat temperature, normally the higher the temperature the better the cat work. When it’s to high, let’s say above 700C it could be problematic. I don’t think it will be this hot.

Sooo... All this CF talk got me thinking.... I have a mate (grew up with him in the UK) now lives in Florida and is a Boat Builder. Luvs gel coat, super handy if you want to make molds and fabricate carbon fiber parts. :D

So I asked him and he said........"funny you should ask, check this out" apparently he races these Brigs n Stratton Go Carts and borrowed someones front fairing and copied it.

My lovely Bike is now sporting the ever so dashing pillion seat whist the "Hump" is currently flying at 30k feet somewhere above the pacific on route to Florida.

Not sure how its going to look but I'm hoping the "top n tail" effect from the fly screen at the front will work with a carbon hump at the rear.

Will keep you posted

Hey guys,

I don't have much time these days to post on this side of the forum. That said, have some new stuff that may be of interest. Most of you know that I work with Richard (one07) and sell his great parts, tools and upgrades on my website

Richard contacted me recently to tell me about some really nice Carbon parts that he wanted to make available

I just got them in and have to say that they are of outstanding quality. Really well made and Richard assures me that the fit is spot on. Definitely something very cool about Carbon, especially on performance machines like the 961

I listed them on the site in case you want to check them out. I am sure Richard will add with some details about these parts as well

I will be starting with a pretty shallow inventory during this introduction but in case we are sold out, there would not be a long wait to get more from Richard

Matt / Colorado Norton Works

How about a longer rear fender that properly protects the rectifier etc, going over top of wheel ,at least?

Update #1

My Seat hump arrived Florida in one piece unscathed...... He said he used a slow cure resin so the heat would not damage the paint on the part, he was worried and has seen damage caused to parts by this process.......... phew, apparently worked out well with extra release agent being used.

I'm thinking that being a Boat Builder with years of experience is Gel coat and resin has paid off here, not sure what franken-mold I would have come up with.

Will update when the first Carbon is layed......

Hi Guys,

Just a polite reminder that it looks like these parts were produced off our tooling. I know whats involved with reverse engineering a part and it isn't cheap or easy, no one would do it for such small quantities.

Let me remind you all we moved from this supplier because the quality was so poor......we will NOT warranty or support these parts.

I have informed our legal team to pursue.

Simon

So you guys blew the Norton Brand and decent enthusiasts can now sell quality carbon parts again now right ??

Norton should not of had the right to tell the aftermarket or private party they couldn’t make replacement parts or custom parts. That’s like a car company telling the aftermarket company no.

Hi Bluey,
Just picked up this thread, did you receive the carbon rear cowl?
The reason I ask is I ordered a rear cowl from the Brisbane dealer about 8 mths ago, mine has a couple of cracks but still serviceable, and to date have not received it, long story, but is there a chance of your mate being in a position to supply another if he has tooled up? Would be very helpful.
Thanks, Tiedy

Ah funny you should ask, I have the mold back just the other week, he had issues laying the fiber and getting air bubbles apparently, something about the angle of the curved back edge....

I've been trying to work out the fiber twill of the Norton parts, I don't think its 2x2 3k, more like 2x2 2.5k ?? unsure if anyone knows out there ??

I'm thinking that I can have a crack with a smaller twill rating and maybe that will help.

Other thing was thinking was to try using a vacuum setup but as he pointed out to me it was cast with no flange which would be needed for a vaccum casting method.

If I can suss out the Twill I'm willing to buy some resin and fiber cloth to have a shot

Hi Bluey/Tiedy, I'd also be interested in a replacement rear cowl, mine has a couple of cracks/dent. Same colour as Tiedy would appear and in Brisbane. cheers

They don't have a right to battle custom parts. Its not their design. You start 3D printing and reverse engineering parts as original, pretty sure they would have a case. But go at it. They can't afford the legal fees.

Ok blew couple of hundred bucks on Resin, Carbon 3k cloth and other bits n pieces to have a crack at this.
