88 crankshaft in a commando (or Atlas) early crankcases

Hi.
I want build an engine without rotor and stator with one chain transmission and flat inner/outer chaincase.
Can i join the 88 cranckshaft that has only the sprocket into a commando (or Atlas) early cranckases?

The 88's have a smaller big end on the rods than the 99, Atlas and Commandos so that could pose a problem.

Both Dominator 88 and 99 have the same small big-ends compared to all later Norton twins.

Yes Piero you could fit an 88 crankshaft in all later crankcases (except for the 850 MK3) although it doesn't make sense to me at all o_O Shortening a 650/750/850 crankshaft looks like a better idea in your case.

Hi.
My intention is to fit the 88 cranckshaft and his conrods into an Atlas cranckases with early Atlas 750 spigottet cylinder and head.
I would to build an Arthur Harris replica with a Norton twin instead of a mono Matchless.

I missed that part when you first posted it. Would it be easier to have a crank built, one without the "extension for the rotor". Or could you have an old crankshaft extension machined off?
You could talk to Comstock about your ideas, he might be able to come up with a solution.

I built several engines with a shortened crank as I could not fit the alternator inside my Manx fairing. So it is no problem to convert a Commando or Atlas crank to the external appearance of a 500 or 600 crank. Send the crank and if you want the left crankcase and I shorten the crank and close the holes for the alternator.

Because the crank throw is less on the 88 you cannot get the pistons to travel all the way up the bore. Also the atlas motor is a Dexaxe design ,a bit of a bodge to get the 750 to fit in what was essentially a stretched 88 case. People have managed to build 750cc 88's but it involves some engineering to fit the parts (750 crank and barrel etc). Without good facilities you will be out of your depth.
