A whopping $1.37, they said it was a closeout, the Timken part was $2.24 which is still reasonable.

Need to get the front wheel on the bike so I can swing around and get to the gearbox cover. Not much oil left in the gearbox to drain out, that would be the silver lining.

Disk will hopefully be here tomorrow.

Remove shifter and kickstarter. A screwdriver was used to wedge the kickstarter open a smudge.

Loosen adjusting nut on clutch.

72 Combat Proddy Build

Clutch cable will now be loose.

So here's the real problem, it wasn't a failed o-ring, it was a failed bushing that held the o-ring in! So oil could basically gush out. Lovely. :|

72 Combat Proddy Build

Bushing was not tight. This is bad.

72 Combat Proddy Build

Push in the seal. It was a nice fit.

72 Combat Proddy Build

Magic stuff.

72 Combat Proddy Build

Smeared some JB Weld on the bushing and pressed it in. I think this will hold.

Cover back on. Clutch cable back in, snug up adjuster on clutch. Kickstarter and shifter back on. Throw some more oil back in and check in a few days for leaks. Centerstand got an oil bath, one side will take longer to rust than the other...

Need to bleed the brake, I think. Now at least I can get the bike off the bench for a while and get to those things easier.

Boy that tranny work looks nasty and bodged but boy ya did a good job on the wheel. Blessed be thy JBW.
I hit next expected-unexpected Trixie part-process failure so helps to see you mood lifting on yours.

What do you mean bodged? Tell me there isn't a little JB Weld on your bikes.

Ugh got me, as not just a little bit either, so actually proud to see your skilled use of it. hm, will have to see how it looks after polishing/buffing.

I love getting packages like this.

Off the bench for what I hope is the final time. The wife helped me get it down, got to keep the women around for the important things.

Tucked away, had to stick the Shepa T on the bench, it took a might whack at the last trials and I holed the primary. No more events until August so I can play with the Norton for now.

Basically all that is standing in my way is The Man. Title, Registration, Plate Fee, Insurance and Endorsement and that will only run me... $400.

Hope the tagging goes smoothly.
Did the front fender fit straight or was it distorted some to fiddle alignment?
I snagged a cheap one at a rally and when centered at front it leaves rear cocked to one side. May have to use hair dryer to remold it some.

Unwisely I fitted the fender prior to having the final wheels. It's not bad and I don't think it's crooked.

What you may want to do is refill the drilled holes with fiberglass and redrill them.

I can only fit stuff by trial and error so don't install much til its all there to modify and get away with. Ms Peel fender must of been stored under stuff as no amount of shifting mount position took out both ends miss-aligning with tire center. I got front right and will try heat and tying down the rear to set up better. Peel must have big mud flaps so expect that to mostly compensate for splash protection.
I had the vendor put the fender over a 19' tire to make sure its radius was right but didn't think about the distortion as I wasn't the one doing the test fitting. But only cost like $10 so can't complain to loudly. I mounted so front as close and parellel to tire top to get some distance off rear of tire which will catch more splash than if closer and looks righter.

Sun stuck it's head out for a bit today, in-between showers. Decided to roll the bike out and get more shots. With my over-paid model. Of course that led to throwing some gas in the tank and giving it a kick. And when it wouldn't start, led to more kicking. The new air filter required some adjusting of the air meter but once that happened it started and ran nicely. Set idle about 950 rpm or so. First run was a failure. Rode last weekend on the trials bike (at least it's got the shifter on the same side) but it's 1 down and the Norton... isn't. It's not easy getting at the shifter with the kickstarter in the way, that will take some training. Ran up and down the alley a few times. Once the carbs were dialed it ran nice and strong.

those foot pegs look good!

Going to have to fight them. Whatever Les used on the bolts it's not enough. Right side is loose already. At least that side is easier to get at. Although I have to figure out how to hold the rear iso bolt/stud.

For the first time I checked the alternator output. Looked good.

Rechecked the oil and it was flowing nicely back to the tank.

Short list (aside from the legalities) is:

Adjust rear chain
Final tune of carbs (need to figure out where I put the ColourTune)
Rear tank strap (the new o-ring from Old Britts/AN broke before the bike was even started)

Ride it until it breaks, which won't be long.

Future things are:

Locktite right side peg
Build fuel lines that crossover
Sort out Speedo (might need a rebuild)
Redo the electrical connectors with WeatherPaks

when you go for the weatherpack check out mouser.com I had to get a special one for my hid. They have pretty much every size and shape just search for delphi then you can narrow down by male/female, number of connections etc.... may be cheaper than some of the specialty wiring shops

I've been thinking about getting a kit, although it would probably be better to just order the parts I need, especially since I should know what I need since I built the mess...

Gee I think pelican was a bit tough on you swoosh.
12 more photos' and,.... "those footpegs look good !"
Oh well keep trying . You'd be getting excited, I'd reackon.
AC.
