Thanks for all of the helpful comments/advice/insights on questions and pics I have posted regarding my attempt to resurrect a 68 commando. I am posting a link to images I snapped of the build process to solicit additional input and to serve as a resource for others.

I’m waiting on a shipment from AN before I take the bike back to the shop for finishing which includes setting timing for EI, Amal premier carb installation, wheel lacing, balance, and truing, installation of tires, and a few other minor things.

LMK if you see anything unusual or have any general questions or comments.

I’m concerned about the swing arm movement. After installing a new spindle the swing arm does not move smoothly. I wonder if the powder coat is causing binding and whether or not it will loosen up after putting some miles on her. I installed tapered steering head bearings but notice a significant gap top and bottom. I have read where others have fabricated a cover for the lower portion but have not read about anyone having a gap on the top which makes me think I may have not fully seated the top bearing cup (I drove it in to where it was flush with the top of they yoke). I plan on replacing the bearings with OEM bearings if I don’t find a solution to close the gaps.

Two things I never want to do ever again in my life: replace isolatics, especially the rear and remove/replace the swing arm spindle.

Overall, the rebuild is going well. The only lost part was the front wheel spacer. Where the hell did it go?

Great photos, working my way through a 70 currently, pretty sure I have some of the same photos as you hah. Good progress so far. Goodluck, plenty of good advice here from my experience thus far.

Like your original professionally welded frame! Something for the Black Museum!

Guy who sold it to me said it was a temporary weld to move bike around after snapping the frame on a ride. He never got around to a proper repair.
