Adjusters with the bigger thread were around (don't know from what) ,drilling out and tapping was a tedious process due to restricted access , All done without any machinery ,shade tree style!. My current workbench is the top of the wifes washing machine. And she objects !!. Wonder why?.
You must have a hell of a job trying to accurately centre punch a part that is critical prior to drilling when the wife has a wash on and is rocking and rolling in the spin cycle! :)

You can mix and match 60 and 55 degree threads. I would never have done this if Dan Smith hadn't told me he cuts all threads at 60 degrees, even when the item is mating with a 55 degree counterpart.
This bit of info generally causes a shitstorm on Brit bike forums with a lot of " you can't do that! " and diagrams of threadforms from amateur machinists.
He's the only guy I know capable of building a complete supercharged Velo Roarer in his basement machine shop. And a V4 AJS , and a Series A Vincent Twin replica and so on.

I had steady hands and determination back then . But with the spin on 1200 ,hang onto those screws!

Apologies again for the delayed response. How do I put photos into my reply?
About 50% of the thread is ok but it’s the rearmost part so I’m worried about using a die and not matching up with the good threads.
I was also going to put a picture of an interesting repair I’ve now found on the gearbox lower mounting lug. Looks like a type of stitch repair.
