All of us have differing levels of tolerance for this, obviously. But I find the vibration to the bars and footpegs is very annoying at anything above 3900 - 4200 RPM. This is probably why I have so little oil in the catch bottle. I don't even shift gears above 5500.

To Glen's point, my Mk3 delivers less vibration than my 961.

I love the vibes. I wanted as much retro feel with modern performance as I could get. Its all I know other than riding other people's bikes. I rode 270 miles in one day, much of it over 80mph and loved every minute of it. I was a bit stiff the next day.

Vibes help you to lose weight, saves going on those vibrating plates at the gym. I mounted my gopro on the brake fluid pod at the front the other day, thats where the vibes are not so good as the camera despite image stabilisation, cannot quite cope, so may mount elsewhere.

As long as my Rizomas are sharp and clear, and they are, I'm good.

Does anyone have any info re: the 50th Anniversary meet at Donington, it will be the 51st anniversary in a few months

It certainly seems a shame if they miss this, but then again, they have a motorcycle business to run and bikes to launch, build, deliver, so perhaps they’ve got ‘all hands on deck’.

The 27th September looks like the last date but have messaged about this rumoured 50th bash

It seems unlikely that it would be one of the bike nights - Thursday - as for those at work it would be a bit of a trek at the end of the day. IF they were going to do something it would need to be at a weekend with trade stands - Norton accessories, clothing and associated Norton goodies. Personal invites sent to Anniversary owners in U.K. etc.
I think Nigel is right, focus is on business and if it was going to happen, would have done so already?
Maybe they don’t want too many owners in one place at the same time swapping tales of woe -could be a riot

Assume that the Donnington Burnout was instead, guess the commando could of got the mention as well, but maybe the burnout will be annual event same time next year .

I went to the Bonneville 60th celebration at the weekend. A real damp squib. Very disappointing.

Made me realise that frankly, unless you can do things like this right, best not to bother at all.

All in all, I’d say it’s best Norton focus on getting good quality bikes out of the door to paying punters...

I think you are correct, I’ve not heard of any other events. The Burnout was an excellent event, I can’t see why more owners didn’t attend.

I didn't attend because it wasn't clear on the blurb what it was about or who it was aimed at.... I'm still unclear after the event :)

The letter that accompanied the launch of the Anniversary was quite clear...

"Further celebrations include a spectacular 50th Anniversary Commando weekend here at Donington Hall on 1st/2nd September 2018. We will be looking to get the largest gathering of Norton Commando's ever! Further details are to be announced, but please save the date"

Mr Garner also mentioned the event at the launch and added that they were working with the NOC. I was present at the launch and I felt that I was buying into something more than just a bike with Norton on the tank.

Absolutely, it was poorly communicated and that undoubtedly negatively effected the attendance.

Ditto, wasnt sure if it was a McGuinnes, Brooke’s, Woffenden promo with mini races or a bike fayre- a long way to go for a few trade stands...

You are doing all the right things. First , go a little slower like you are. At 60 MPH@ 3500 rpm indicated the 961 is almost smooth . Next get bar end weights for the hollow recesses in the foot pegs. Third , get soft hand grips like the PRO Grip 717 soft AND overlay them with GRAB ON foam overlays . This is what I have done and it helps ! Finally if you are going to take a long trip consider gearing up say 1 tooth in the front sprocket or 3 down in the rear .
