Happy New Year everyone. I was able to get out on the BSA. Seems to be running well, still got some minor issues to sort out. It’s a very comfortable bike to ride, up to 50 mph anyway. I got about 60 miles on it now.

We had a high of about 50f here. Nice and sunny, always sunny here in Colorado. Great day to test the bike.

I had a spark plug issue. Kind of un-heard of. When I started it was only firing on one side. Switch plugs over and it followed, so was easily resolved with a new plug. Then discovered I got the wrong plugs in bpr7es. I read it’s bad to use resistor plugs with magneto, so they are going away. What plugs are other using for stock super rocket? I expect bp7es is ok? Also, I set the gap at 24 thou and then read for magneto, plug gap should be no more that 20 thou.

Although it was only a short ride today, I am starting to feel more confident about it not breaking down. The gearbox is great, glad I spent the extra time on it. The excessive smoking is clearing up. It is not leaking oil. Speedo now works perfect, but tacho not working.

It sounds beautiful.

I will do another 30 miles on it, then oil change and re-torque. Then to fine tune things.

Cheers, Jerry

Sorry Jerry, I missed this thread until now.
I am using Champion N3C plugs on the Super Rocket. The C is for copper core.
Like you, I had the gap a bit wide at 25 thou. The bike would sometimes take a few kicks to start. I haven't had a magneto bike since the 70s and forgot that the plug gap needs to be less than with point/coil or with EI.
After checking the manual I set the plugs at 20 thou and now it always starts in 1 or 2 kicks.

AFAIK NGK stopped production on non resistor plugs a few years back, I have a box of BP8, 7 and 6's but after that will have to find another option, Champion still has non resisted plugs I believe

I bought some new old stock NGKs off Ebay, a case of 24.
A couple of them failed at low mileage. At some point I watched NGKs video on identifying fake NGK plugs and realized that the Ebay plugs I had were fake.
Since that time I have switched over to Champion and I think the starting is better than with real NGK.
Champion doesn't seem to have the fake plug problem that NGK does. The Champion plugs are inexpensive and not a good target for fakers.
