2020 Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction Preview

I used to track Triumph, Norton and BSA big twins every year, it got tedious.

Ever since the second big auction moved in to Vegas, it's never been the same. There are too many big auctions these days, unless you have a very rare bike, you just don't get that top dollar the way it used to be in Vegas.

People used to buy cheap in Deland, FL, then hold the bikes for 11-1/2 months and sell them for huge profits in Vegas the following year. You can't do that any more.

You can see all the Mecum lots here

If you register and log in, you can see the results. Today's auctions are already posted, and there were some pretty good deals today, as well as some pretty pricey ones. They don't put most of the really expensive ones in the first day, so it's only going to get more interesting.

Are there fees for both Buyers and Sellers? how much we talking about does anyone know?

The fees vary. I seem to recall sellers having an initial consignment fee, and a final value percentage fee; then the buyers also paid a final value percentage.

Curious to see what the GB 500 Honda’s bring - one with 1 mile on it and another with 3 miles . I was going to bid remotely summer before last at Mecum’s Monterey gig when a buddy found one at a dealer in RI which I bought - albeit with 7k + miles on it.
There are two examples at Vegas this year of the one motorcycle that I wish I still had - Husqvarna 360 Sportsman - one is beautifully restored and once belonged to Bud Eakins - the other not so nice but supposedly ex - Steve McQueen . Neither are the dual range “ 8 Speed “ which mine was .
Too bad the lottery ticket thing didn’t work out as hoped or I would be there waving money around .

FWIW, my '75 Commando MkIII (formerly Interstate) sold at the higher end of the scale locally, late last year. I installed freshly painted (Black with gold pinstriping) Roadster bodywork & seat, new Avon tires, new battery with heavy-duty cables (although the originals never gave me a bit of trouble), and did the full maintenance on it including total brake rebuild. Ready to go cross-country at sustained 80MPH without breathing hard, and top the ton without working much harder...
