Chaps and Chapesses....went to change my Headlamp bulb today, took out the bottom self tapper and then the offside adjustment screw? Changed the lamp to a Phillips Extreme bulb and when refitting the adjuster bolt a spring and brass collett dropped to the floor. Anyone got a drawing or photo of how this goes back together before I lose my temper with it!! Ahh.... the Joys of ownership!

Thx

I made a manual for this. I hot glue it in place.

Visit CNW website for manuals. Or send me a PM with your email address.

Assume the spring is placed over the adjuster bolt (@ 9 o'Clock position from the front) and the brass collet is some form of limit adjuster stop?, and it's that you recommend gluing in place?

Just sent you 31 emails. Look for BULBS. You will see filling that brass tube with Hot Glue tip.

Appreciated, got them thx. Its hand built right enough, wonder if the Mk 2 arrangement is improved as even the screw does not engage that much?

Britfan60 just recently changed from the original to the later version. I don't think that spacer arrangement is used now. He posted a picture of his bike with the new headlamp shell. Here it is .

Yup. Way better. I changed mine Summer of 2016. I think it's just a standard headlight assembly, but I did get mine from Norton. The wires are a little on the short side for this change because of the location of the exit hole in the new light shell but does indeed work. Here's mine.

Richard,

I'm thinking of making the switch to the new ballistic shaped shell/headlight too.
Britfan said that it's very fiddly to get all the connectors fitted up inside the shell.
Is that true, how bad is the operation?
Is there less space inside the new type shell?

Its pretty straight forward. It does seem as if there is less room. The hardest part is making sure all the wires have enough slack as the hole is in a different spot. So you have to gently pull all the wires towards the shell. Its really not all that challenging but do put aside a little time for it. Its worth it in the end.

If the tank is removed first it should be easier to find/make slack in the wires, no?
Are there any other parts that have to be ordered to do the replacement like spacers, fasteners, etc.?

Nope. Just new headlight assembly.

I had to leave the main plug outside the shell on the new one. No room. It was mounted on the outside of the old one.

Also not much slack on the indicator wire. Wound up breaking off a male connector but easy enough to replace. Took over a hour figuring the most efficient wire placement. Used the Norton factory spacers. You'll be surprised at how easily the bracket ears move/bend. Scary.

Resurrecting this to request dimensions on the later style Norton headlamp shell diameter and depth.
After months of waiting I have given up on the factory and am now looking at (despite my aversion to Genuine Wassell) a "Lucas" headlamp so just wanted to compare dimensions before splashing out.

19 cm wide x 17.5 cm deep , Are you saying you cant get a head lamp shell from Norton ? Just order one from them . The ignition switch comes close to the top of the headlamp shell , so my measurements don't account for the slope or shape. Call Norton or email Max Muller and order one directly .

Thanks Tony, my dealer has supposedly been trying since late Feb with no meaningful response and due to that I have emailed direct on two occasions in the last month with not even an acknowledgement of receipt. Was about to pm Rob when his goodbye post popped up. I have heard of others also struggling here.
