I spent most of Sunday (today) doing booth duty for the NCNOC at the International Motorcycle Show at San Mateo. Below photo is the special edition 2010 Norton in front of our display. Loren Guy in the photo is giving details to show goers.
This is the second time this year the club has had the priveledge of providing a public look at this machine and it was a real hit. My understanding is there are 6 machines remaining for sales in the US at roughly $18K. Next year there will be around 3,000 produced and the price goes up by $6,000. With 200 worldwide total production for 2010 this is obviously a future collectors machine and the price is a bargain for the remaining 6.

2010 Norton Commando 961SE

What happened to the carbon fibre wheels that are supposed to justify the higher price for the SE?

Man, if they struggle to sell all 200 at 18k it's gonna be tough to unload 3000 at 24k??

That particular "Commando 961SE" in the photo appears to be built to the cheaper and lower specification (wheels-brakes-forks) "Sport" model configuration?

All 200 of the initial batch of 961SE models were sold months ago. Unfortunately it's been a case of supply not being able too keep up with demand.

The subsequent 961 Cafe Racer (£13,995GBP UK price) and Sport (£12,495GBP) models are priced lower than the original limited edition SE (£15,995GBP) model.

Truth is, there are NONE for sale in the U.S.

I know three people withj deposits on for over a year, and they are worried.

The "remaining" ones might well ALL become collector's items at this rate...

I just want to win the lottery, fly to England and shell out bills till they release one from the shop, then fly it home.

their was no 46 for sale on ebay for £17000.00 still for sale didn't reach reserve surprisingly
mine ( no 6 ) will be for sale when my caf'e racer ( built by mr rambow ) arrives.
roll on summer as the english autumn ( fall ) is getting on my tits already....................

That seems to be a US supply problem? As the factory is now producing the 961 Cafe Racer and Sport models.

18K a bargain, in who's eyes and what world? Adding another 6k on top of that and it becomes laughable. A handful of collectors doesn't keep a company in business.

It is not a US supply problem, it is a certification problem. There is special law in England that allow them to sell small numbers of bikes there, but they don't yet have certification for EU or the US for things like smog, noise, etc. Last I heard it would be next year some time before they get certification to sell in the US.
As for the carbon vs wire wheels, I ordered mine with wire wheels because I like the classic look of the wire wheels (cost is less too).

50 of the 200 came to the US - Southbay Motorcycles is the distributor. The US price as negotiated by Southbay is $18,000 for the pictured version of the 961 SE. For comparison that's just under $11,300 GBP. Of the 50 US models I was told all but 6 have been sold.

ZERO of the U.S. models came to the U.S., unless you count the DISPLAY ONLY bike(s).

"...will EVENTUALLY come/go to the U.S..." I'll accept.

Hmmm, sold to me is when you buy something that exists, I suggest there are zero on the roads in the USA.

Call me a cynic (as many of you have in the past) but if the factory has spent the last 18 months producing much less than 200 bikes then how does production suddenly scale up to 3000 in a year? I for one can't quite see that happening (but I hope it does) .

All but 6 of the 50 units that are designated for U.S. distribution have been SECURED for sale WITH DEPOSITS.

Still no luck with the lotto either, eh? "You've got to play to win", as they say...

The new Norton was on Vancouver Island at Spunkies for viewing and they were taking orders. There couldn't be in a worse time economically to be launching this beauty. This seems to be Nortons lot in life as the resurrection has failed many times before. Try and finance a luxury item in the States and see how far you get.
Go to ebay and see whats happened to the motorcycle market !! 10,000 Harleys for sale and nobodies buying. Guess what , the price is going down and no upside on the horizon. Maybe I'm a pessimist but probably just getting old and grumpy . Cheers and the best of luck to Norton just the same.

Two sayings about the lotto in California
"The Lotto is a tax on stupid people"
"The chances of winning are the same if you buy a ticket or not"

The purchase price at Spunkies in Can. dollars was $22,000.00 which raised a few eyebrows . Deposits were $1,000.00 and I know one guy who put down for one and had buyers remorse shortly thereafter. The reason why was because of the price and the fact the bike was cheaper in the States by about $4,000.00. And this when the Can. dollar is at par !

Blame Canada and the extra regulations in comparison to your southern neighbors. This was called out by the Canadian distributor at the INOA rally video shown a while ago.
