I have laid a bike down three times in the past: once when i was 18 and a little old lady in a hat ran a stop sign in the rain an I went down just behind her rear bumper (she didn't stop); once a few years later when I forgot to fasten my duffle bag down with a bungee and it got sucked into my rear wheel and locked it up; and once test riding some knobs custom HD chopper that the knuckle head owner over filled th oil so it spewed it all over the rear tire.

But, I had an inauspicious start to my day today. A guy in a C63 decided to pull a u turn right in front of me without looking. I t-boned him right on his front wheel and went over his hood and onto the deck. Pretty sure the Duc is totalled. The forks are well back, the rim is curly, the tank displaced so much it bent the ignition key over 45 degrees, oil on the road so maybe the cases are cracked... no blood though.

Just pretty sore and whacked my groin/nuts going over the top and have a good bruise coming up there...just look at the dent in the rear of the tank.

The bike can be fixed or replaced, bodies are more difficult. If you walked away, be happy - it could have been much worse. My brother has raced speedway sidecars for many years. In his early days he rode as passenger for one of his mates. When his mate looped the sidecar on one occasion, the first thing he did was run to see if the bike was OK - ran past my brother who was lying on the track semi-conscious. It is really funny, the relationship between my brother and that guy. My brother has a lot of trophies. The biggest of them is positioned on the shelf above the refrigerator, where his friend has to go if he wants a beer.

Blimey, looks like you got off lightly there, especially regarding that dent in the tank!

Look on the bright side, at least you’ll get to go motorbike shopping ...

In Aussie land blue nuts means you been without it to long lol, anyway your still breathing thats the main thing.

Pretty much like an airplane landing - if you walked away, it's okay.

I sure hope the dope had good insurance. MAX IT OUT.

Creating a list of used bikes to demo:

Ducati 996SPS, 959 and 1199/1299S. Also a 1098 Tricolore is for sale locally, but not so sure those last three may be a bit much.
Thruxtan R
Yammy MT-7 HO

Just for starters

Blimey GN, you don't hang about ;)
Mind you it's better to move forward than dwell. No chance to repair the ST4 then ? It's a shame, I really like them. They are a VFR with character.

From my experience you are not going to feel the stiffening and bruising for 48 hours, so can I suggest hot baths of Epsom salts (maybe known as magnesium sulfate in your neck of the woods) and Ibuprofen taken after food. Also Turmeric tea or capsules is a a very good natural anti - inflammatory. Tell me where to get off If i'm teaching you how to suck eggs

Cheers,

cliffa.

Nope!

Take the Duc in for an assessment later today, but my guess is its toast. I really like the bike, it's a good and comfy too. Just has an anemic headlight.

Plenty of ibuprofen on board and the doc just handed me some codeine cuz it is better for my kidneys. ;-) i am looking forward to a good soak in the spa this eve.

Glad to hear you cheated the reaper.
There's no shortage of nit-whits on the road who just don't see motorcycles.

I love my new Thruxton 1200S plenty of torque its not the R but it handles pretty good and the nisson brakes work good enough for me. well thats my 2 cents worth.

Glad you are OK,
Re; “Plenty of ibuprofen”

Don’t like ibuprofen as it tends to give me the sh*ts , so will only take it in small dozes . . . .

Because of interaction between some of my meds, ibuprofen is the only analgesic I can take. Luckily, I don't have any negative reaction to it. My relatively sedentary lifestyle at 77 years old means I don't need pain relief very often.

David,
In the UK we have a company - motorcyclesdirect.co.uk mostly Kawasaki but has other used makes. Is there anything similar in NZ?

Having looked at their site, not sure what makes them that much different from other large dealers?

Slightly larger discounts but tend to be last years models.
Just wondered if NZ had something similar? Shipping cost from here might negate any saving;)
