Hi Jimbo, I got this from Ron Frattelli ? out in Arizona. One of Jerry Doe's buddys. Old Norton dealer or something like that. He said it was steel, which it is, and the original paint. He didn't specify the year, 1973-4-5, I don't know. Looks original to me.

My 74 850 came to me as a hirider. Apparently tank and side panels repainted in past by a previous caretaker but tank stripe is as shown in nortster's images, closed loop striping.

AFAIK, the 74 Roadster, Hi-Rider, and Interstate in black all had double gold lines. However, my 74 Roadster has original paint, and the lines are not that shape at the front. Since they were hand-done, that may just be the way the painter did it. Generally, if you look near the rear where the two lines become one it is very clear when they are hand done - perfection there is almost possible.

strange isn’t it? I can’t think of any bike that is less suited in its nature to be a chopper (or weak factory imitation) than a Commando.

Listed as an SS hirider, what's that about?
No such thing as an 850 SS
My Craigslist steel Hi Rider tank has no pinstriping and twin flags on top. Checkered and British decal. A repaint for sure, which will be stripped and painted again should I utilize it. ABB, (anything but black)
