Hi all.
I have just finished to desmount, first time, a 1972 combat engine.
I have found around the cam, timing side of course, two thrust washers fitted in series:
- the usual 061086;
-and more the brass flat 062601 against the camshaft bush/crankcase timing side.
I have also found, out the cam on the right crankcase, in the rear of the camshaft drive sprocket, another brass shim.
The cam had no end play.
I have ever seen and fitted only one thrust washer, the 061086, and knew the flat 062601 as alternative for SS cam.
Please, my understanding is that only part 06.1086 is required, but let me understand better.
Thank you.
Piero

One 061086 (steel) and two 062601 tabbed bronze thrust washers would be normal for a 1972 model that has the 062600 timing side bush (see Old Britts link) with one 062601 each end of the bush (so one inner and one outer thrust washer).
The tabs should be cut off to prevent the chance of them breaking and being sucked into the oil pump.
