Ash in my experiences with these old machines the original lay shaft bearing can go south at any time , regardless of the year of production or model . My 70s locked up and I don't think it was the dreaded Portuguese 850 bearing . Modern bearings are the way to go , I'm a big proponent of a roller bearing upgrade , as you know . NJ203E. TVP2 .
