Could anyone share a picture of how the coils were mounted on my 1970 Commando as I believe it was pre the U-shaped bracket, judging by the few parts I have and I suspect just one right angle bracket was used but I can't seem to find any images. Also could anyone share the dimensions of the u-shaped bracket, mainly the width, length and height as I am considering making one from alloy and nesting the Boyer module between the coils and using as a heat sink. Any help and ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

AN show the 'U bracket on the Interim 1970 but could not see what was on the 68 to 70 model.

It might be noted there would need to be something as it reinforces the fuel tank wings which can crack without something across them.
Maybe that is why the later coil bracket version was added ?

The 1970 Interim parts list on Andover is confusing to me. It shows the late style frame which uses the U-shaped bracket. The early style '68-'70 frame uses the 'L' shaped bracket.

1970 Commando Coil Mounting Brackets

Above is the bracket the coil clamps mount to. There is no space between the coils to mount your Boyer module. It’s so tight the coils have to be one slightly forward of the other. To get a good photo I would have to remove my gas tank. If you really need it I’m willing.

Thanks for the offer but with your input and others I have an idea now, cheers

It certainly is nice to know the options for your Series 1 commando.
illf8ed shows the correct S 1 commando coil mount but it's best for points/coil only with the little caps hanging below.
The actual easiest for a boyer box which requires/prefers 2- 6 volt or a single 12v dual output coil and the S2 type coil mount is likely better.
If interested I have a print of a neat boyer box mount that is easily fabricated and mounts under the late S2 coil mount in the cold air stream.

I’m interested in this Boyer box setup. Also what exactly is the S2 type coil mount?
