Just looking for the right battery tray for my motorcycle. If someone could post a photo that would be most useful. Currently have what I believe to be the wrong tray, but 06-0615 part number is giving me a few different options. Want to get the right tray.

Numbers off the machine are - M3/130319/P on the crankcase, 37677 on gearbox, 24237 on engine.

Thanks in advance.

M3/130319/P

Should be 20M3/?

Is the frame/frame plate also stamped 130319?
In a previous thread, you said that you "Have a 1969 roadster with the same oil tank."as an 'S' Type...

... however, 20M3/130319/P is not only too early for it to be a Roadster as a Roadster or 'S' Type (also too early) with the same (central) oil tank should have a 20M3S (camshaft points) engine number prefix and neither Fastback nor 'R' Type in production at that time had the 'central' oil tank. A 20M3 engine should have a points housing behind the cylinders.

37677 on gearbox,

I cannot identify that number. Is it a stamped number or a casting number (so above the surface of the casting)?
The gearbox would normally have a matching (130319) number stamped across the top mounting lug.

24237 on engine.

I assume that number is actually on the cylinder block and is the casting number for the 750 block.

Currently have what I believe to be the wrong tray, but 06-0615 part number is giving me a few different options.

If for whatever reason, it has a central oil tank...
"1969/70 "Roadster" & "S"" ('69/'70 'S' and '70 Roadster).

...then it would need the 06-1220 battery tray (and RH access side panel).

Amazing, thank you. Took another look at the M3, it is stamped 0M3, no 2. I’ll try to post a photo.
I had been under the impression it was a R, this is my first Norton and I have been trying to unravel its secrets as it’s a basket case.

frame tag has the 130319 stamped. The number on the trans is stamped but not on the lug, will look where you describe.

it came with a battery tray that fit a battery in the long direction. Could not get the fastback kidney shaped oil tank to fit. Bought a battery tray and ham style tank and it went together like a glove. Then finding out theyre incorrect. Just quite confused L.A.B.

Yes, 20M3/130319/P could be an R (so not a 'Roadster').

What are you referring to as a kidney-shaped oil tank as the early Fastback and R Type both had the style of tank, below (and no RH side panel)?

Thanks for the pictures.

Pic. 53) Could be a weld repair where the '2' would have been?
Pic. 48) Wrong (71-on) oil tank.
Pic. 47) '040122' is the gearbox shell casting number. I presume there is no serial number as it would be stamped above the casting number on the top lug so has either been ground/filed off, or it's a replacement shell.
Pic.46) The 20M3 RH crankcase half should have the points housing, below,...
...Edit: although the opening for it appears to be covered with some type of protective sheet or tape?

so, this is what i have, thinking it was an R.

A central oil tank is 'S' type and early (1970) Roadster as the 'R' had the same oil tank as the early Fastback mentioned above.

Andover Norton, unfortunately, had that page titled as 'S' and 'R' Type for some time (until I finally managed to get Joe to correct it but should be 69/70 S and '70 Roadster) so the R didn't have the central oil tank.

so I take it this is the oil tank I need for my motorcycle?

and this battery tray (06-1220)

Yes (for an R Type).

and this battery tray (06-1220)

No, that's for the central oil tank (S and '70 Roadster) where the battery is positioned across the frame behind the central oil tank.

The 06-0615 tray you apparently have is the correct one for an R with the side tank shown in your first picture.
