On the '68 commando I am finishing up there is a large oil warning label. I have no idea where it goes on the bike/oil tank. I think it was also on the '69 and '70 machines, but my '70 does not have one. Does anyone know where it goes?

This is a rough picture of the decal -

Logically (OK, so it's a Norton and logic wasn't always applied) I think it would have been positioned fairly close to the oil filler?
So I'm guessing it was stuck on the frame spine tube reasonably close to the oil filler?

I think that your: "Important...Do not overfill oil tank" sticker reads: "CHECK LEVEL TO CENTRE OF SIGHT TUBE...." (see below) therefore it is only intended for the early Fastback (and 750 'R' ?) models with the sight tube oil tank (and no dipstick).

1968 decal Question

Central tank models had the 030461 "Oil type" sticker. A period photo in Roy Bacon's 'Norton Twin Restoration' book shows the oil type sticker on the top of the frame spine tube, slightly forward of the oil filler cap position and orientated so that it can be read from the right hand side of the machine.
A photo of a later right side oil tank machine in another book shows the same sticker-but positioned just to the rear of the fuel tank, and facing in the opposite direction.

So this transfer went on all bikes, both central tank and side tank with the sight tube? I don't ever remember seeing one on mine, but not to say it may have been ripped off before I got it. Funny it would say sight tube with the central tank.

Which one of the two stickers are you referring to?

The central tank and later R/H oil tank models appear to have had the 030461 "oil type" sticker.

Only the "sight tube" 060935 sticker is listed for early Fastback.

The 1970 spares supplement for all models "Parts changed from 1969 Models" on the last page lists 030416 Decal-Oil Recommendation for all models (no 1969 part number).

The 1969 Fastback used in conjunction with 1968 spares lists only the 750 Commando transfer 061017.

The 'S' supplement lists no oil tank transfer that I can find.

The 'R' lists the 061017 again for the side tank.

And the 1968 spares lists 060935 as the 'Oil Filling Transfer'.

I'm totally confused. To me it looks like the 1969 'S' didn't have a decal or transfer and the 1970 did? So I guess I don't need to worry, but then only the 1969-70 'S' and Roadster had the central oil tank, if there were any 70 'S'.
