Hi All.
Please, could you let me know the code, or the type, of the 1968 commando red colour painture.
Thank you.

Norton called the color Grenadier Red. RS Paint in the UK offers a match to this color and the NOC gives 'Peugeot Talbot Cherry YAR054' as a modern paint reference. It should be noted that red colors in the '60's were very much subject to fading by the UV rays of sunlight. It is doubtful a 6 month old Norton would have exactly matched a freshly painted NOS '68 Commando. You can waste a lot of time and frustration searching for the perfect match and never find the absolutely exact match to the original shade. I suggest you find a shade close to what you think is right and enjoy the ride. No matter what you use someone will argue that it isn't quite right.

I used PPG Vermillion Red. I like the shade and it is close enough for my eyes. I'm sure someone will disagree.

Isn't that the truth. No matter what you do that Norton didn't do usually results in disagreement and a hearty "that's wrong" in a Norton forum environment.

A painter tried to match what the paint was like under the tank I picked up for a Norton. The top was terribly sun faded, so useless to try and match. The result was not an exact match, but I like the color and size of the metal flake better than anything Norton ever came up with. Certainly a lot better than maintaining patina rat rod Red.

Ron,
Exactly my experience trying to match the signal red on my ‘72 fiberglass roadster tank. My painter thought he knew the correct paint, but missed. Next time I’ll just pick the red I like.
