Hi
I am in a contrary regarding the correct stays and bridges for my 1963 650SS short front mudguard.
Stays I have bought are too short by 5/16" and not, sure on the bridge.
From my 1963-1965 parts book
  1. Stays [HASHTAG]#19291[/HASHTAG] 11 1/4" centre distance too short x by 5/16", 5/8" diameter
  2. Bridge [HASHTAG]#030254[/HASHTAG] "Stainless dommie flat front mudguard bridge with dimpled sides. These have 2 slotted holes in the top of the stay where it would mount to the mudguard" fits OK, Parts book listed [HASHTAG]#24984[/HASHTAG]
The thing I see here is that from 1964 Norton changed to 7 3/8" wide fork spacing. so one would think at least the bridge would be a different part #, and the stays would be a bit longer also, as well the 1964 mudguard was the long sided affair.
So from my 1961-1962 parts book 7" fork centres.
  1. Stays [HASHTAG]#19291[/HASHTAG] Norvil list a 019291SS at 12" long, seems too long but
  2. Bridge [HASHTAG]#19282[/HASHTAG] Norvil List NM19282 Stay - mudguard bridge - for 7" wide forks - pre 1964
RGM list [HASHTAG]#19291A[/HASHTAG] Chromed 12 1/8" dia 1/2", and [HASHTAG]#19291[/HASHTAG] at 11 1/4"?

So Can anyone confirm the correct length of the stays and bridges for the short sided front mudguard, I am leaning towards the Norvil parts?
At least if the stays are too long I might be able to slot the hole back or something.

Best Regards
Burgs

If it helps, I just measured the stays on my fully valanced 1964 front mud guard and they are 11 1/4 so that would definitely be too short for the unvalanced (short sided) mud guard.

Just measured stays on my '64 650ss (valanced) - vary between 287 - 289mm (11 1/4" is 286mm)

Hi thanks definitely got the fully valanced stays then, I think I will go ahead and buy the 61-62 parts from Norvil, seems to be right to me if not I will have a few parts to sell at the next swap meet :).

Hi
Yep found the four Dee shaped spacers in one of boxes of parts, pity the stays and bridge weren't with them, would have saved some time and money.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about mudguard bridges for Nortons.

Here is a picture of NM19282. This is a repro made by Elden Pitts several decades ago.
It is indeed for 7" fork centres.
