Does anyone know if the 53 to 56 ES2 had a oil level decal on the tank. If it did is it in script or block letters and does it say, "minimum oil level" or 'maximum oil level". I have located suppliers of the various decals . Cheers Robin
Here's a page from the 1955 sales brochure. (I have a '55 ES2).
There is something on the oil tank & because of it's position, relatively low, I would think it probably says 'minimum oil level'. I only have a photocopy so it's hard to see what sort of script it is. Mine doesn't have anything on, but the tank was repainted before I owned the bike. Hope this helps.
I too have an Easy2, 1954 model. The proper decal for the oil tank is gold capital script with the words, RECOMMENDED OIL LEVEL,,,,,,,,, Not Min or Max Level. Go to this link for an example: www.classictransfers.co.uk and look for # 6355 decal under Norton...
If you look in the 1955 parts book, it lists the transfer (decal) for oil tank as 'minimum oil level'.
Robin sent me a picture of his ES2 & it is the newer model than the one pictured above with full-width hubs & newer style oil tank, so I'm not sure that it even had a transfer (decal) on the oil tank.
You may be right? The bike was made before I was old enough to reach the bars so I couldn't say for sure either. I do know not all manuals are created equal and have every bit of info in them. I was merely sharing the info I got from my UK friend that I hold in high regard, that has forgotten more about these motor bikes then i'll ever know.
My 54' was repainted and I don't have a decal. My only concern is having enough oil in the tank so I can enjoy another ride ......
