Does anyone have access to an engine diagram for a circa 1946 M18 engine? I could also use some sort of parts list or diagram if available. I have a small oil leak running down the outside of the push rod tubes. I suspect there is a seal worn out after 75 years. I can find ES2 stuff, but I am not sure if they are the same.

I am not sure if mine is a little different. It is a 1946. There seems to be a large rubber gasket under the rocker box above the lifter tubes. I think that is what is leaking. I dont see this part on the diagram? They are not o-ring shaped like in the picture

Major redesign in 1948.
On second thought, check out this list for '38 models:

Does anyone know what the part number is for the large rubber gasket/seal that sits under rocker cover? I am pretty sure this is what is leaking.

I have a '55 ES2 and struggled to find the correct rubbers to seal the top of the pushrod tubes. The ones that were fitted when I bought it were very soft and had a sort of stepped outside diameter. The smaller diameter went in the tube and larger against rocker box. They sealed well but eventually perished. I have never seen any others like them. I have had most success with the fat rubber O rings that RGM sell. They list different ones for different years. I did use a bit of RTV Silicone sealer to help them.

I think these are the ones I bought-

Part No. C3/89 Push rod cover, top, sealing washer USED ON 18, ES2 Price 6 pence each
According to spare parts list I mentioned before.

Check out page 4 of the '38 manual in the lower right corner of the left page. Part numbers 8892 and 8893, description on following page.

8893 is the part I need. Also listed as a3/89. Any idea where to find this? Ideally in the US.

I have ordered from them in the past. Do you have to be a current member?

Yes, you do need to be a member. I've found it to be a great resource for info, parts and the bulletin is good as well.
