Goats are great mowers. Environmentally friendly, and fresh little turds are good for keeping dust down when sweeping the shop floor. They are also a renewable resource.
I'd go with sheep..... Their eyes go the right way and they taste better too..
 
AJS Mower.....I have an AJS, but it's another single!

As for goats, my neighbour has 3, yes they keep the grass down, but they are just as happy eating wooden structures, like our window surrounds!!

The upside is the lad is a mower mechanic, lent him the mower, and it came back tuned up!

Friend of mine left half a bag of gypsum plaster within reach of his goat.

It ate it. And died.

My mate has the Norton engined Trusty with a grass cutting attachment, but prefers to use sheep. (Easier to start, perhaps? :) )

When we bought the farm 37 years ago, we got a goat from some friends(?) as a move in present. I never again will have a goat.
Enough of goats, back to the oily things.
My Venom goes with 10W40. Though Velo has an anti wetsumping valve. Main drawback in a Norton is that it will wet sump faster as the oil has lower viscosity when cold. Most of us don't push our Norton twin engines hard enough for an extended time to have an issue with the the lower viscosity at high engine temperatures.
 
I guess true love is a wonderful thing to behold..... awaiting pics or very least someone's name.
 
So, I might be playing with fire on that issue. But I wondered if a modern and slightly thinner oil might damage anything within, including liberating any sludge. I'm talking myself out of this!
If you’ve read Comnoz’ extensive oil test thread then you’ll be aware that the biggest factor in a Norton that separates them from most ‘normal’ bikes in terms of risk / sensitivity to oil is… the cam and followers.

It looks from your avatar that you have a MK3? Some MK3’s suffered soft cams, further exacerbating a known weakness.

Then again, there‘s plenty of folk who’ll happily tell you how they did a million miles per year on used cement mixer oil.

All depends how risk averse you are… and how much of a PITA a worn out cam would be for you… and how important the cost saving of using the wrong oil is to you…


(BTW, JASO MA2 is clutch friendly, so perhaps use in the primary is a good suggestion?)
