1007 Seeley Commando dyno run

The steering geometry and gearing might be more important than horsepower. Many motorcycles cannot put their power on the ground and accelerate hard all the way around a corner. Higher speeds in the corners means less to make-up as you go down the straights. Not many race bikes have 106mm of trail with a 27 degree rake. Smooth power delivery might be more important than the actual amount. A 2 into 1 exhaust takes a bit off the top, but improves the middle. It is like some other things - now what you have, but what you do with it.

Yeah, we ended up a bit lean on the needle so need to return once I have a selection of richer needles to play with.

I’ve also got some different inlet extensions and manifolds to play with.

Which is all purely academic to be honest, it produces awesome torque and power at very sensible revs and total reliability.

Anyway, as Al has taught us, getting more power will only make it slower…

It sounds good to me and probably not so far off carburetion wise to prevent you from having a good time circulating on a racetrack with people you know. Chasing the tune is a great use of time though. Enjoy.

I still cannot bear to even look at it, simply because of grief. However I sincerely promise that one day in the next twelve months, I will put it back together and ride it at Winton with the 6 speed gearbox. After I rode it past the 3 of the quickest bikes in Period 4 Historics, I had proved the project. The 6 speed box is the next step - but does not prove anything. I have achieved what I set out to do. When I was out in front in that race, I had the thought 'if this keeps going, it will be funny' - that is when it started to miss. If there is a God - things happen to no-hopers. Those guys would have been very embarrassed. I am surprised that such an idiot motorcycle can be so good.
I still want to do an onboard video, and there is now one of my brother's mates living in our town who will help me.

It would be interesting to see the HP and torque graph...

I always wondered what the throttle twist of a big displacement commando would feel like on the seat of the pants... given the characteristics of a 360 parallel twin that weighs 100lbs less than my '80 honda cb750F. (and that thing was a rocket ship at 80hp) I think the norton 961 is 77hp... Is that correct? I suppose I should just stick to my 50hp commando and not end up in the hospital again from too much throttle and not enough rider skill or good judgement... 😏
