‘Green’ generator sets, order early to avoid disappointment ...

tHE GREENS FINALLY FIGURE OUT THE SECRET TO PREPETUAL MOTION
Cannot remember where I saw it, but apparently an enterprising chap already does that. He has a van / pick-up truck with a generator in the back for roadside re-charging of EVs. I think it may have been somewhere in eastern Europe?

Don't worry so much.... Remember algae/bacteria living on jet fuel causing issues... Have some patience with evolution/nature hard at work trying to digest everything. Tree huggers will be amongst the first complaining as life evolves devouring their green dreams and car batteries. It's managed to overcome the worst of obstacles for a billion or so years, and I'm thoroughly convinced it shall continue. We're all just temporary... A very tiny inconspicuous & insignificant footnote in time.

Those do, in fact, exist (after a fashion).

There are hand-crank flashlights (torches), hand-crank radios, and hand-crank / pedal-powered generators for smallish remote needs.

I suppose a wind-up clockwork generator would be easy enough to make; but you can't "create" energy, so all the cranking to supply a decent power source for a decent amount of time, might take one monstrous spring and one heck of a lot of cranking it up!

Trevor Baylis, clever inventor guy, invented the clockwork radio especially useful in developing countries i.e. Africa. So that way the locals without access to electricity were able to keep in touch with local radio stations.

I've often wondered if it is possible to create a handcrank charger for use with a mobile phone, also for use when out in the back of beyond. How much power does an iPhone need to charge it fully?

Don't know about iphones but my Pixel will fully charge in 3 hrs at 3A and 5V so 15W over 3 hours is 45 Wh.

Now all you need to to work out if a handcranked device can produce 45Wh, got my doubts.

Average power output over a period of time is usually around 50 watts per person

So you would need to hand crank for an hour at 50W output, not for me.

How about for push bike fans could they run a small gen as the pedal or is the load way too much except for athletes?

Too late...Gilligan and the Professor did it in the mid 60s
Even before that, the Australian coast watcher in the movie "PT109" had his "radioman's assistant" cranking on one (must've been a real deal in that era)

No one has mentioned putting a windmill on their roof.... Might get the civic club or home owners association all riled up, but what the heck. :)

We had a power cut recently and I got to looking at generator sets.

It occurred to me how ‘old hat’ they all look in this EV age with the old fossil fuel burning engines.

Got me thinking about marketing a better version. A modern, green, electric powered generator set...

Doesn't this get us back to FEs original wind up?
